I have always been curious about how floating shelves work. They don’t have any visible bracket that keeps them up, hence the name floating shelves, but they do have a bracket that’s hidden.
The bracket consists of a small pipe or bar extrusion that has been welded to a flat bar. The pipe extrusion has a hole for a screw that will hold the shelf in place. The flat bar has multiple holes for wall screws.
The shelf consists mainly of a plain thin wooden box with a panel at the back with holes in it to fit the bracket.
The wall bracket is placed onto the wall and the shelf is then slit over the bracket where screws are used to keep the shelf from sliding off.
I recommend floating shelves because of how simple they are to install and the clean and neat look they give. They are essential for a minimalist look.
